How do I stop feeling sick at 5 am sports practice?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

i'm 15 and i do crew (rowing). once a week we have practice 5-7 am before school. i had 5 am practice this morning (but no school today).

i went to sleep at 8 pm and woke up at 4 am. i had green tea and a bowl of oatmeal. i give it time to digest. then at practice i always in general feel so sick! i guess it's because i'm used to sleeping at 5 am?

then after practice my eyes really hurt. i guess from being tired? but i thought sleeping 8 hours would help!

HELP!!! i want to stop being tired after practice! do i just need to sleep like 10 hours?

Hey, it's you again! I think you are pretty much doing everything right. Oatmeal is a great breakfast, but I'm not sure about the tea though.... I've heard that eating an apple gives you more energy than caffeine. So instead, I'd try oatmeal, an apple, and some toast. So far you are getting 8 hours of sleep. If possible AT ALL, try for nine or more. I know that is difficult with school, I am only a sophomore, yet my practices are 3 hours after school and the ride there is 1 hour, so I'm literally out of the house from 7 in the morning to 8 at night. I still maintain a 3.7 GPA, but I recently decided that I will be an athlete first and a student second. I WOULD RECOMMEND SORTING OUT WHICH ONE IS PRIORITY!!! Anyways, your eyes may hurt from makeup-filled sweat dripping into them??? I'm not sure about that. I have problems when I get up too quickly in the morning (as in go from laying down to standing up in about 2-3 seconds) and my eyes KILL and I can't see for about 10-15 seconds. If that's a possibility, try that. EAT CARROTS TOO!! They help a lot with eyesight. After trying this and if it doesn't help, I would see a doctor or even talk to your coach about it. As for your tiredness after practice, you NEED to replenish yourself of the water you lost from the workout. You need to drink water CONSTANTLY! Before, during, after practice... all throughout the day really. And make SURE to eat again after practice. Apples are the best recovery foods after rowing, so I'd eat one before and after practice. Also try eating a oat granola bar (I suggest nature valley Honey oat flavored, I believe its called.... It's a green wrapper/box). Remember to stay away from any caffeine like tea, coffee, soda, etc. Eat healthy, hearty foods with protein and carbs. And most importantly, DRINK TONS OF WATER! Even if you constantly have to pee, you need it!!! I'd also suggest getting a heart rate monitor for your wrist so you can tell how many calories you've burned during the workout so you can be sure you are not malnourished. I Hope I helped!!!
