What can be/do you recycle? How can you tell?
I am trying to go greener. I try to recycle what I "know" is ok but I want to know what all is acceptable to recycle? Also, how can you tell? Is there a code on the bottom of a product that shows it can be recycled (aside from the recycle logo and the words "recyclable". Please list all the products you recycle or KNOW FOR SURE can be recycled:

Newspapers and other papers can be recycled.
Metal cans can be recycled.
I think cardboard boxes can be recycled.
Glass, of course.
If you have plastics, look for the little triangle and the number 1 (PETE) or 2 (HDPE). I don't recall offhand what the abbreviations stand for. I think 2 is High-Density Polyethelene. Those are recyclable in most areas. Plastics numbered 3-7 typically are not, although some areas may recycle them.
CFL bulbs have to be specially recycled due to the mercury content. Ask the public works department in your area. Some "green" stores may have light bulb recycling (there's one in my area that does).
Recycling isn't all you can do. If you have good options for local produce, try that. Drive less and rely on transit, bicycling or walking more. Look for natural cleaning products, such as Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day or Seventh Generation. Your local Whole Foods will also have some excellent cleaning products. If I were at home, I'd check out the label on my multipurpose cleanser.
I have read that you should not try to grow a lawn but try to do indigenous plants. I think in arid climates, there's something called xeriscaping. If you live in an apartment like I do, that's not so much a problem.
But the greenest thing you can possibly do is eat less meat or (preferably) go vegetarian.
