tell me about you!?
I like black tea and photography. Long walks on the beach are boring. School reading books are seldom good and I don't really like BMW. I like cats better than dogs. Staying up late talking with someone who you care about is fun. I don't want to get married. I love Jews but I do not agree with the existence of Israel and the displacement of Palestinians. I like retro clocks but not retro cars. I find that most contemporary artists are frauds. I am not a fan of Sport Utility Vehicles and conspicuous consumption. I like to watch the sunrise. I like being random. Death by plane crash doesn't scare me. Turbulance is fun. I love to sleep. I have a fairly limited vocabulary. I rarely watch television. I wish that I had a British accent. I live in an affluent community and hate it...but i appriciate it. I am inmature. I like coffee. I like monopoly. I hope to become a cultured adult. Cassettes are obnoxious. I love switzerland and my friends.
I want to know about you.
Tell me. Please!

Your R4 DS Card and Nintendo DS Means Dangerous - Rick Dangerous!
Rick Dangerous crash lands his plane over the Amazon while searching for the lost Goolu tribe...
But, by a wonderful twist of fate he lands right on your Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi, with the help of
homebrew programmers and the trusty R4 DS Card for the Nintendo DS / DSi system. Can you help Rick escape these angry amazonian antagonists? I think you can. With the help of your R4 DS and your stylus for the Nintendo DS, you'll be running through each level with ease... But don't mistake that for easy. Rick Dangerous, whether on the Nintendo DS or the original Amiga version, is not an easy platform game, and well worth the time and effort that you put into playing the game.
While what I have written it not a 100% quote from the load screen, it really is exactly what the load screen should read, because playing an amazing old classic like this, is exactly what it should be all about.
One of my fondest memories of platform games came in the form of an really short Indian Jones style main character. Undoubltly based right on the hero himself made famous by the movies. With giant balls made of stone rolling after you right in the first five minutes of that game. And who was this short hero? A young Indian Jones? No... It was none other than Core Designs Rick Dangerous. It was one of the reasons I love my old Amiga 500 so much. Enough that I picked one up on eBay 10 years after I sold my original Amiga 500.
Alright, I am assuming a lot, and assuming that everyone reading this will have heard of or player Rick Dangerous. For those of you that have not, here is a run down. Rick Dangerous is a platform game developed by Core Design for the Amiga, Atari ST, and 8-Bit computers, as well as for DOS based PCs. It was released in 1989 and published by Rainbird Software in Europe and the rest of the world, and on the MicroPlay label (part of MicroProse) in America. Later it was released with two other games - Stunt Car Racer and Microprose Soccer on the Commodore 64 Powerplay 64 cartridge. We won't dwell on the packed in games, and focus only on Rick Dangerous itself (or himself, for those of us with Fond memories!)
So why talk about a game that was release back in 1989? How could it possibly be relevant to what you're playing now. Well, if you know anything about challenging platform games, or are into platform games, you're reading about the grandfather of platform games. Really. Many of the elements from this game have been incorporated into countless newer generation platform games. More than that though, it's because what is old, is new again. With the help and dedication of homebrew programmers that make or remake games for the pure love and joy of it. You can, with the help of an R4 DS Card, play Rick Dangerous on your current generation hand held Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi consoles. And it won't cost you a cent, because the game is released absolutely FREE. Non commercially, and available for download for your to enjoy on your NDS system (and various other systems as well) All you'll need is an R4 DS Card for Nintendo DS and the NDS itself of course.
The game is really almosy completely based on, and follows to some degree the script of the Indiana Jones series, namely the Raider of the Lost ark. Rigth down to the boulder that comes after you on the very first level ( just seconds into the game! ) This happens to be one of the most memorable scenes from the Indiana Jones movie.
The only weapons you have on your person are a simple pistol and a whole lot of dynamite. And with these two weapons you must take care of an evade all of the bad guys on the screen and in the game. You'll have to be quick though. Your pistol and your dynamite won;t do away witht he skills required to get through the first 2-3 levels of the game at all. The second level is set inside a pyramid in Egypt. It gets much more intense in level three, on level three, Rick must venture to the Nazi stronghold of Schwarzendumpf castle to rescue captured Allied soldiers. The rescued soldiers tell him that the Nazis are planning a missile attack on London. Therefore, in the last level Rick must infiltrate their secret missile base.
The original garnered fantastic reviews. Many magazines giving the game 92% or more in the reviews. And I am certain of the R4 DS card version / homebrew version for the Nintendo DS / DSi were ever released commercially, it would garner the same type of reviews, for both its retro look and feel and amazing gameplay. The really amazing thing about this is that it is not a commercial release, and that this free homebrew version has the blessing of the original developers as well.
If you're ready to go all retro and really get into some of the games that were not only unique and exciting back in their day, but were also games that helped define a genre, then grab your Nintendo DS and your R4 DS Card and start taking advantage of some of the hottest and coolest retro style gaming ever.
