I wanna write a war novel, my favorite from when I was a kid is Jarhead, and I wanna write one just like it, trouble is I've never been to war or in the military. So I'm planning to sign up but I feel like the essence of the military is peace through violence which is the supreme authority of all other actions, so I have to ask what service branch would give me the most combat experience that would fit "correctly" into a book. Do you consider your war stories to be worth telling and being head and if so which service branch were you in and which wars have you been in? Please don't tell me I'm signing up for the wrong reasons, not everyone signs up for patriotic causes, some just see it as another day in the life.
