Spiritual people who do yoga ?

Do you have a certain type of yoga you either do from a dvd or on a fitness channel that has a very spiritual feel to it from either background music, how you do the moves, or any meditation within the program? If you do please let me know where I can find it. I do Namaste Yoga and I love it but I wonder if there is anything else out there. I do not want someone on a screen saying just do this move or that. I like yoga to be very spiritual. Help if you can!

In my experience, it's pretty rare to find instruction that emphasizes much spirituality, perhaps because there is always the concern about appealing to the widest possible audience, and therefore an avoidance of turning anyone off.

One dvd title I own is Dharma Mittra's "Maha Sadhana, Level 1".
To me it's noteworthy in being one of the few I've come across that includes some discussion/instruction in pranayama and meditation, but note, those topics are separate from the asana instruction, so I cannot say that you will find the asana portion anything more than "just do this move".
As to the actual asana instruction, Level 1 is good I think for a beginner, so if you think you are intermediate or more, you may be bored. I have not seen the Level 2 dvd.
As one reviewer noted at Amazon.com, the pace is somewhat "sedate", which may not appeal to some.

Perhaps you've heard of Jiva Mukti school/style based in NYC.
It is a style known for it's spiritual perspective to the practice of asana.
They appear to offer two instructional dvd's.
I have not seen either (tho being a Michael Franti fan, am very tempted to try "Power to the Peaceful").
The reviews posted on Amazon for "Transform Yourself..." seemed mixed, so again, you'll have to reach your own conclusion.

What Is MEDITATION

What Is MEDITATION

What do most people know about Meditation?
It is typically an eastern practice. Meditation is considered by many to be practiced by those involved in yoga of one sort or another.
Usually considered spiritual in nature, although used by more and more people in recent times, Meditation is not practiced by mainstream America as a rule. There are benefits generally accepted by most of the scientific community however.

Meditation is believed to Lower oxygen consumption, It decreases respiratory rate, It increases blood flow and slows the heart rate, Increases exercise tolerance in heart patients, Leads to a deeper level of relaxation, it is good for people with high blood pressure as it brings the B.P. to normal, Reduces anxiety attacks by lowering the levels of blood lactate, Decreases muscle tension (any pain due to tension) and headaches, Builds self-confidence, It increases serotonin production which influences mood and behavior. Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression, obesity, insomnia and headaches, Helps in chronic diseases like allergies, arthritis etc, Reduces Pre- menstrual Syndrome, Helps in post-operative healing, Enhances the immune system.
Research has revealed that meditation increases activity of 'natural-killer cells', which kill bacteria and cancer cells; it also reduces activity of viruses and emotional distress.

The above list of benefits is impressive. Even if you aren’t convinced that Meditation will help in all of these areas, if it only worked in a few of the above situations, it seems like perhaps a good practice to consider.

Meditation when used as a spiritual tool can be connected with prayer, chanting a mantra, counting the breath or any number of other methods to help keep your focus. If your goal is to keep some certain focus or meditate on a particular subject or target, a variety of methods to accomplish that sort of thing can be found on line or in most public libraries.

If your goal is instead to simply calm yourself and to receive the benefits listed above across the board, it is not necessary to use a mantra, sit in the lotus position while Meditating, or burn incense. None of those things will hurt but the only real requirement is to sit quietly for a while. 30 minutes once or twice a day will suffice. Don’t talk, let your mind do as it chooses, if a thought comes in just notice it and let it go.

Trying to stop your thoughts is not as easy as it sounds. Maybe that will come eventually and maybe not. Just relax and be here now. The goal is just to sit quietly for about a half an hour at least once a day. Once you have made that a habit, just follow your heart. If you want to get more involved in a certain kind of meditation or you want to read more on specific types of meditation that will be up to you.

It is not necessary for you to change your religious beliefs to Meditate. Meditation doesn’t need to have anything to do with religion. The upside is incredible and there is no downside. Human beings have been Meditating for thousands and thousands of years. There is nothing to buy and it only takes up a half an hour or so daily. This is one of those things that can make a major difference in your life without taking very much effort at all. I know that you have tried at least once in your life to Meditate. The reason you quit was more than likely you were trying to make your mind be quiet and became frustrated at your inability to bring it under control. Just realize that there is so much to gain by simply sitting quietly for half an hour. Give it a try.
