Am I wrong to want to hit these bicyclers on the road?

It seems like everyday these creepy bicycler dudes ride in the middle of the road in their black spandex and shaved legs. These are the same guys at the gym who tend to shave their entire bodies, including everything downstairs, because it helps them "go faster". This just makes me want to smash into them more.

The other day I just got so frustrated, I threw a half eaten peach at one of them because he apparently thought the middle of the street was his right. No sir... I drive a car, and don't cry about how you like to work out and I don't. I do, I just don't ride my bicycle and wear tight clothes.

I saw him flip me the bird in my rearview; I wanted to break his middle finger off, but cooler heads prevailed and I drove home.

Maybe some of you obsessed bicyclers can enlighten me a bit. Why do you ride in the middle of the road; and also, what makes you think that shaving all your pubic hair will make you win some kind of race?

First of all, to those that asked why they don't ride on the sidewalk--in most places riding a bicycle on a sidewalk is illegal. Yes, even for kids. Yes it is legal to ride a bike in the middle of the road lane. Most hardcore bicycle riders I know (individuals, club riders, die hards) will ride so you can move around them relatively easily. And if there is a bike lane or path in good condition (for the speed they are riding) they will gladly use it instead of the road. I often ride on the road because at the speeds I'm traveling it is safer than many of the bike trails I know. I actually live in an area that is blessed with a very high number of trails and bike lanes. As the trails age they become too uneven for traveling at speeds above 20 mph. Densely used trails are also not safe for riding at this speed as many go much slower than that. Imagine a car doing 40 on the freeway and you can easily picture the situation. One last note, the very edge of the road is usually the most chewed up. When I do ride on roads with little or no shoulder, I try to stay as far to the right as possible, often riding the white line. But holes can cause me to move further into the lane.

You know I just can't imagine why that guy got mad at you when you were so kind as to throw something at him.
