If I paid for a Bod Pod test for my BMI, would the US Army except it?
Ok, I am a 31 yr old female. I have been in the military for 12 years. I weight 179lbs and I am 5'6". I know that I need to lose a few lbs (the Army says I should weight 164). Now, were I am having a problem at is that when I got tape tested the other day, they told me I was 41% body fat. 1 month ago I was 188lbs and was at 40% body fat. I lost almost 10lbs but gained a percent in body fat. Not likely. A person with 41% body fat qualifies for gastric bypass surgery. I don't believe I am that big. I am a size 14, I can pass the Army APFT and I regularly bike. (Completed a 82 mile bicycle ride in July) and ride in my off time. I am wondering if I were to pay for a Bod Pod test, if the Army would except it and lift my flag for the Army Weight Control Program. I am just tired of being told I am fat (almost 50% body fat).
I am a medic in the Army and it is unauthorized by Army Standards 670-1 to use any kind of outside source for body fat. We have a specific program that is outlined in the regulations, which is what they put your measurements into initially. Females have an especially hard time with these new tape tests because even though you lose weight, it alters your body proportions tremendously. I've seen people drop close to 30 lbs and still stay the same body fat and be flagged. Unfortunately this is the program put into place and as unfair as it seems, there has to be one set standard for the entire Army. IT may seemed far fetched, but it's probably easier for you to drop the 15 or so lbs that you have to lose and make weight rather than have to be taped. You're so close, just stay strong and work at it. You'll get there a lot easier than losing 5% body fat or more with this standard.
Bottom line: Don't waste your $$ because the standard is the Army standard and they have to use the same program on everyone or it wouldn't be fair.

What happen to the young men in our country concerning serving in the military?
In the past few months I read many question about the military and young men wanting not to serve. I taught my son to love his country, his flag, and his freedom. Was that because I was in the Army or did we go wrong somewhere? It really frustrates me?
Enlisted `1976 served activing unitl 1984 then went Reservist then activated for Desert Storm Dec 90-thru May 91 then back to Reserve status thr May 97 retiring
i dont get it either. millions of men and women died in horible way far from home so you didnt have to. they died and took a bullit for you to ahve the ability to choose to be free and you deny you obligation and debt to these heros by not serving. rediculous and ungratful. unless you are curring cancer or helping charities you shoudl help some way.
