I've been working with a big buddy program non stop, year round, since may of 2006. I work with underprivileged youth. Although I'm compensated, I still put in countless hours that I don't get paid for such as weekend activities (on my own time), etc. Is this considered community service?
Yes but make sure you really want to do it and feel it's your duty to give back. If you plan to pursue membership in one of the NPHC sororities (research all but pursue only one) and you become a member, you will be expected to transfer to an alumnae chapter and continue to be active after college, which means serving the community and supporting your sorority for a lifetime. My west coast university only currently has three on campus, but now and then I hear of others.
