Please suggest attire for evening piano concert.?
It is an evening concert featuring Phillip Glass and a cellist at a large theatre in San Francisco. It will be cold and windy outside and comfortable inside the theater.
I'm desperately seeking style suggestions--the more specific the better. I cannot wear black. My goal is "pretty" as well as put-together. I do not want to appear nor play the part of an high-maintenance woman. I have three reasons for this:
1. I would like to direct my wardrobe towards this style. My closet content is currently focused primarily on athletic wear.
2. I just turned 40 years old and would like to present myself as a confident, well-dressed woman.
3. A former male friend may also be attending the concert. If we run into eachother, a hoodie and capri's just won't do.
I'd guess the mode would be more on the casual side of casual-elegant considering the artsy nature of the event. However, I defer to anyone who has specific experience and/or advice.

it sounds like an evening event, so an evening gown wouldn't be an inappropriate choice (I believe every woman needs a fun wel fitted evening gown in their wardrobe, comfortable, non-restristrictive, a little stretchy) It doesn't need to be gaudy, but a touch of simplicity also brings on a touch of grace. A neutral-ish color is preferable over black, such as grey with a touch of blue, or a brown with a touch of honey.
You don't need to play the part of a high maintenance woman... a well fitting gown, comfortable simple dress shoes (I think that an open toe is more "down to earth" than a closed toe, bt thats personal opinion).
Your hair doesn't need to be perfect and all dealt with perfectly and hair sprayed until not a strand moves. If its medium or long, a soft french braid would look great.
To go for a more casual look... skip the jewelry. Skip the nail polish, but make sure your nails are clean and cut well.
Another option would be a pair of nice fitting pants (think basic colors, if you don't like black), with a fitted button down shirt in a complimentary color. A somewhat elegant necklace with personality (ie: your first name written in braille beads) adds a touch of 'dress up' without a fussy sense to it.
