head lice, eggs and black grains?!?
My kids school have problems with head lice, i thought my kids were ok but i was told that the little black grains in their hair where eggs. I remove all the black and white eggs i can, but i have never once seen a nit! I always find them in the bed in the morning, and little tiny orangey one's as well... hat are the black things? why havent i ever seen a nit?! i use tee tree everyting, electic nit combs, big metal one's , i even was told to put a shower cap on for 2 hours with the hair soaked in listerine!
Nits are white little balls attached to the hair shaft - they are the eggs of the lice. Unless you manually pull the nit from the hair, it stays glued on, even if it will never hatch.
After a nit hatches, the almost translucent white casing stays on the hair shaft, but can fall off.
Live lice are small and black. They move around. Most people don't see adult lice.
I don't know why you are seeing something orange - maybe it has to do with whatever louse treatment you are using.
Tea tree oil is not very effective. Listerine will really irritate your child's scalp (because of the alcohol) and will not necessarily work. Furthermore, the lice are now resistant to most pesticides.
My favorite very effective and non-toxic treatment is the use of leave-in conditioner. I don't mean the conditioner that you wash out in the shower, but rather the version that is designed to be left in the hair. There is no special kids' version.
Apply the leave-in conditioner scalp to tip of hair every day for 7 days. That's it. This method is about 98% effective. Furthermore, since the school sounds infested, why not keep using the leave-in conditioner as a preventative? And tell other parents - nontoxic and it works!
P.S. In some countries monkeys are employed to remove the nits.
