who is Merv Harris in b-ball history?
In a basketbalI history book, I saw a quotation that I really liked, saying basically that professional basketball is and should be for hardcore fans only, attributed to someone named Merv Harris. It didn't say who that was, and I've never heard of him. Is there a famous Merv Harris in basketball (or even sports) history?
Merv Harris, longtime prep sports writer and editor at the San Francisco Examiner.
Mr. Harris joined the Examiner in 1973 and served as executive sports editor for two years and as its prep writer for 24 years. After retiring from the Examiner in 1999
"Merv Harris made young people feel good about themselves," said St. Joseph Notre Dame basketball coach Don Lippi. "He didn't cover the pros or important events like the Masters; he covered the Skyline College (summer high school) tournament. He wrote about the kids as if they were the heroes of the day."
